Pilots Are Easy. Production Is Governance.

The model was never the hard part. By the time a bank has a pilot worth talking about, the technology has already cleared the bar. What it hasn't cleared is the institution.

The pilot-to-production wall is made of people

Walk the failure modes and they're almost never about accuracy. There is no named model owner; the controls were never mapped to a framework; risk and product speak different languages.

“Who is accountable when it's wrong?” is not a compliance question. It's the architecture question.

None of these are technical problems. They are organizational ones wearing technical costumes — and no amount of model improvement fixes them.
